More Grizzly Bear Amazingness...

I finally uploaded my shots from the show at the Crystal Ballroom, and I really just want to go back. The combination of how great they sounded and the lighting and the venue was really just perfection. It was a special show.

With this I will give you my favorite Grizzly Bear songs (as of now). They have really become my go-to band lately. I just can't seem to get enough.

In no particular order:

On a Neck, On a Spit --- Yellow House
Two Weeks --- Veckatimest
Little Brother --- both versions
While You Wait for the Others --- Veckatimest
Fix It --- Horn of Plenty
Shift (Alternate Version) --- Friend EP
Knife --- Yellow House
Southern Point --- Veckatimest
Colorado --- Yellow House

Ok, now go listen. :)

Where The Wild Things Are

I saw Where The Wild Things are in Portland this weekend with my mom, and it was so wonderful. If anything is a work of art as a film, this is definitely it. Beautiful story, too. Found this on trueslant.com randomly and thought it said things perfectly:

"I can’t recall seeing a more powerfully rendered artistic vision of the pain, joy, anger, desire, insecurity, impulsiveness and overall restlessness of childhood." -David Disalvo

I just downloaded the amazing score for the film by Karen O and The Kids. It's really, really great. Kind of a perfect interpretation of the above quote. Raw and powerful, and fun.

This would be my urban outfitters fall/winter wishlist. A girl can dream, right?

ByCorpus floral flannel work shirt ($48), BDG cable knit beanie ($20), BDG woven ankle bootie ($48).

Neal by Neal Sperling plait sweater ($68), UO faux leather plimsoll ($24), Silence and Noise satin trouser ($58).

Silence and Noise studded tank ($58), Silence and Noise tiered faux leather skirt ($78), and XL knit eternity scarf ($28).

Might have to spring for those little leather skimmers though. Perfect for winter with jeans. And I've been trolling about for an eternity scarf everywhere, so naturally I would find one in the men's department, where I would least expect it. Looks cozy nonetheless!

You should probably listen to Portugal. The Man.

One of my favorite summer music discoveries was this wonderful Portland-based (via Alaska) band called Portugal. The Man. Their newest album, The Satanic Satanist, is pretty much insanely good, and their live MFNW show at The Roseland was great. They are coming back to Portland to play at the Doug Fir on December 18th and 19th, yay!

This music video is awesome, and kind of Flaming Lips-ish?

I've been loving this song from The Dirty Projectors lately, but I couldn't figure out where I had heard it before. When I searched youtube for this video to put up, I realized I had seen the video on Pitchfork months ago. They just get it right sometimes.

Strangely beautiful video, too.

I'm thinking about getting some TOMS...

It is for a good cause, after all. :)

They also seem like a slightly more practical option than flats for winter.

Mairal Cordones ($69), Poe TOMS ($54), Ash Canvas TOMS ($44) all from TOMS

Now that I have been playing that album nonstop for months, it was pretty great to see it at one of the best venues in Portland.

The lighting at this show was one of the best concert set designs I have ever seen. It was SO genius. I couldn't really get any good pictures, so I'm really glad that McMenamin's put some up on Flickr. I took a little video of the lighting action and will post that later. :)

The best part was that the lights in the jars coordinated with every song. Especially at the Crystal, it was so atmospheric and beautiful. Perhaps I will investigate youtube for a video example.

They are BRILLIANT. The end.
